On a rainy day in 1771, a middle-aged man enters Notre Dame Cathedral. He shakes off the rain from the three-cornered hat he had worn on his wig strewn with powder. After his eyes have grown accustomed to the dark he begins to unpack a manuscript which he had to protect from the rain. Looking at the title page he murmurs: ‘Rousseau juge de Jean-Jacques’. He has decided that these personal reflections should be put on the altar of the cathedral. But when he approaches the altar he notices that the rod screen of the choir is closed. The famous author disappears in the maze of winding roads around the cathedral.
